Cost Effective Method of Applying Fertilizer, Pestcides and Herbicides

  • Application of fertiliser is done only if the soil needs it.
  • Apply with caution to avoid waste of money.
  • Test the soil to determine what nutrient must be added.
  • Apply at proper season.
  • Always follow the directions on the pack of the fertiliser.
  • Apply pesticides, herbicides and fertiliser on landscaped areas and avoid driveways or sidewalks.
  • To apply pesticides always use the least toxic material to man.
  • Avoid pesticides with half lives longer than 21 days.
  • Always wear a protective clothing to spray pesticides and herbicides.
  • Avoid spraying over impervious surfaces
  • Do not spray on a windy day

Modern techniques on chemical application

  • Buffer strips and trees between crops and water ways can filter nitrogen and prevent it from seeping into the ground water.
  • Global positioning system (GPS) allow farmers to vary the rate of fertiliser application across a given field, checking and controlling the amount applied to particular position to the amount needed by plants growing there.
  • Seed treatment protects a plant during its formative weeks and germination from the impact of pest and diseases.
