How to Control Weeds in your Cassava Farm

HERBICIDE - PARAQUAT NAFDAC REG NO. 04–7132

(i) BRAND NAME: WEEDCRUSHER

(ii) ACTIVE INGREDIENTS: PARAQUAT

(iii) FORMULATION: 200g/l Paraquat ion (276g/l as Paraquat dichloride)

(iv) USES: Total contact and general herbicide for the control of broad – leaved and grassy weeds. Use as post – emergence herbicide in most cases on weeds.
RATES: PLANTATION CROPS: 1.5 – 3.0 litres/ha in 200 litres of water.
FRUIT CROPS: 1.5 – 3.0 litres/ha in 200 litres of water.
SUGAR CANE/CEREALS: 1.5 – 3.0 litres/ha in 200 litres of water.
No – tillage, pre – plant & pre – crop emergence: 1.5 – 3.0 litres/ha in 200 litres of water.
Un – Cropped land situation: 2 – 4 litres in 200 litres of water.

(v) PACK SIZE: 1 LITRE PET BOTTLE

(vi) TOXICITY CLASS: WHO CLASS II

(vii) SAFETY PRECAUTIONS: Do not use Weedcrusher in a mist blower. Do not smoke, drink or eat while using the product. Wear suitable protective clothing and face goggles when mixing and using. Concentrated Weedcrusher can irritate your skin. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. After spraying, wash yourself, change and wash your clothes. When bottle is empty, do not re – use again, crush or cut, then burn or bury it. Keep unused Weedcrusher in its bottle, tightly closed, locked up out of reach of children and away from food. Keep animals away until the spray has dried.


 INSECTICIDE - LAMBDACYHALOTHRIN

(i) BRAND NAME: KNOCKOFF

(ii) ACTIVE INGREDIENTS: LAMBDACYHALOTHRIN (2.5% EC)

(iii) FORMULATION: 25g/l lambda cyhalothrin as Emulsifiable Concentrate

(iv) USES: Knockoff is a pyrethroid insecticide, highly active against a wide range of spp of Lepidoptera, Hemiptera, Diptera and Coleoptera. It also has some miticidal activity. It is a stomach and contact insecticide and it shows adulticidal, ovicidal and particularly larvicidal activity. It gives rapid knockdown and long residual activity. It can be applied on crops such as Cotton, Cowpeas, Soyabeans, Groundnuts, Maize, Sorghum, Rice, Cocoa, Vegetables and Ornamentals. RATES: In general, 0.5 – 1.0 litres of knockoff should be diluted with 200-500 litres per hectare of clean water; that is 200 litres minimum and apply using MOB Knapsack Sprayer.

(v) PACK SIZE: 250ML, 500ML, 1 LITRE FHDPE BOTTLE.

 (vi) TOXICITY CLASS: FAO/WHO CLASS III

(vii) SAFETY PRECAUTIONS: Wear suitable protective gloves and face shield when handling. When using, do not eat, drink or smoke. Do not apply where the roots of desirable plants can absorb the chemical to reduce the problem of contaminating water supplies. Wash powder from skin and eyes immediately. Keep away from food, drink and animal stuffs. Keep out of reach of children.


HERBICIDE - GLYPHOSATE NAFDAC REG NO. 04–6579

(i) BRAND NAME: CLEARWEED

(ii) ACTIVE INGREDIENTS: GLYPHOSATE

 (iii) FORMULATION: 36% (or 360g/l W/V) acid equivalent soluble concentrate i.e. 48% as Isopropylamine Salt (480 g/l Salt).

 (iv) USES: Generally used for the control of annual and perennial grasses, broad – leaved weeds, sedges and woody plants in all crop field. Used as post – emergence herbicide. RATES: Annual grass weeds; 3.0 litres/ha in 200 litres of water. Broad – leaved weeds; 3.0 litres/ha in 200 litres of water. Perennial Grass weeds; & broad leaved weeds; 4.0 litres/ha in 200 litres of water. Non – crop areas; 5.0 litres/ha in 200 – 400 litres of water.

(v) PACK SIZE: 1 LITRE FHDPE BOTTLE

(vi) TOXICITY CLASS: FAO/WHO CLASS III

(vii) SAFETY PRECAUTIONS: Wear suitable protective clothings e.g. overalls, PVC gloves, goggles. When using, do not eat, drink or smoke. Wash hands after use and before meals. Store in original containers, away from children, animals and foodstuffs. Do not contaminate ponds, streams or ditches with product or used container. Harmful to fish.
